A multidisciplinary group of researchers whose mission is to provide scientific evidence to support safer, more reliable and higher-quality healthcare; healthcare that is equitable, accessible, affordable, comprehensive and sustainable. The group works with and for patients, healthcare professionals and health authorities, with the aim of ensuring the availability of understandable and usable evidence to support decision-making by all stakeholders in the healthcare system.
This scientific evidence is mainly presented through health technology assessment reports and clinical practice guidelines, with the aim of informing the decisions of policymakers, managers and healthcare professionals.
In addition, to support decision-making by patients and caregivers, the team develops, validates and evaluates decision aids to promote shared decision-making between patients and healthcare professionals.
Furthermore, the group’s research activity enables the generation of new scientific knowledge on the effectiveness, safety, cost-effectiveness and impact of certain relevant health technologies for which there is insufficient evidence of their value.
Lines of work
- Health technology assessment, healthcare services and benefits, emerging technologies and digital health interventions, and the development of health technology assessment reports, clinical practice guidelines and other evidence-based products to support decision-making in the Spanish NHS.
- Health economic evaluation of health technologies, budget impact analysis, cost-of-illness studies, and analysis of healthcare costs and resource use.
- Research methodology and data analysis, including the design of primary studies, protocol development, study monitoring, statistical analysis, meta-analysis, evidence synthesis, systematic reviews and knowledge translation.
- Evaluative research in healthcare services, primary care, chronic care, mental health, public health and innovative care models.
- Person-centred care, shared decision-making, patient involvement, and evaluation of patient-reported outcomes, experiences, quality of life and information needs.
