RESEARCH GROUPS

The Primary Care research group of the Biogipuzkoa HRI managed by Dr. Itziar Vergara has led several projects in recent years aimed at promoting active and healthy ageing, addressing frailty, multimorbidity and polypharmacy in Primary Care.
In relation to frailty, he has worked on the proposal of instruments for identifying and addressing frailty that are most suitable for our field of work, PC, including questionnaires, performance tests and biological markers. This experience has been transferred to the Osakidetza Elderly Care Plan.
With regard to the approach to multimorbidity in PC, in recent years we have led various projects and collaborated with groups from other autonomous communities. The work has made it possible to assess the impact of an intervention based on the integration of services in people with multimorbidity. Our group has a line of research led by primary care pharmacists and family doctors in the design and interventions on improving the appropriateness of medication use in chronic patients of varying complexity. In recent years we have worked on educational interventions for professionals aimed at reducing polymedication in patients with multimorbidity both in primary care and in coordinated care with different specialties.
