Marta Llarena Fernandez
Marta Llarena holds a Bachelor’s degree in Biochemistry (2000) and a Ph.D. in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology (2005) from the University of the Basque Country (UPV/EHU); she also completed a university-specific Master’s program in Hereditary Metabolic Diseases (2017) at the University of Santiago de Compostela. She completed her doctoral thesis in the Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology (UPV/EHU), including a three-month stay at the University of Konstanz (Germany). After completing her PhD, she worked as a postdoctoral researcher in the United Kingdom at the Marie Curie Research Institute (2006–2010) and Imperial College London (2010–2013). From January 2013 to November 2016, she worked as a Research Associate in the Congenital Metabolic Disorders Group (IIS Biocruces) on various clinical research projects and clinical trials, actively participating in the preparation of proposals for national and European project calls. From April 2017 to October 2020, she worked as a clinical trial monitor at the Clinical Research and Clinical Trials Unit Platform (SCReN) of IIS Biocruces Bizkaia, performing monitoring and management tasks for clinical trials (both national and international) and clinical research projects, with a total of 36 assigned national hospitals. In 2020, she combined her duties monitoring clinical trials for the SCReN Platform with monitoring independent clinical trials at the Clinical Research Platform—Clinical Research Implementation Support (SEIC) of the IIS Biocruces Bizkaia. From October 2020 to February 2022, she worked as a methodologist at the Scientific Coordination Platform of the IIS Biocruces Bizkaia, providing methodological support to clinical researchers in the development of protocols for independent clinical studies/trials for subsequent submission to the Ethics Committee and the Spanish Agency for Medicines and Health Products (AEMPS) for evaluation; and monitoring and coordinating the implementation of various independent clinical studies/trials. Currently, since February 2022, she has been working in the Research Group on Dissemination and Implementation Sciences in Health Services at IIS Biocruces Bizkaia, where she serves as Research Coordinator for the Bizkaia Chapter of the Research Network on Chronicity, Primary Care, and Health Promotion (RICAPPS) (RD21/0016/0003; RD24/0005/0017). In June 2012, she received a positive evaluation as an Assistant Professor from ANECA. In total, she has participated as a Collaborating Researcher in 19 research projects, 20 scientific articles, 24 book chapters, and 22 presentations at national and international conferences.
