Mercedes Varona Peinador
Holding a bachelor’s and a doctoral degree in medicine, she currently is head of the Emergency Department at Bilbao-Basurto University Hospital, in the Basque Health Service Osakidetza, and professor at the University of Deusto. She is also a researcher in “Emergency Medicine Research” group at Biobizkaia Health Research Institute, and member of the arrhythmia group of the Spanish Society of Emergency Medicine (SEMES) in the Basque Country. Her research focuses on arrhythmias and decompensation of chronic diseases, with emergency medicine playing a key role in ensuring continuity of care for these patients.
