Effectiveness of self-management of medication, self-monitoring of blood pressure, diet and physical exercise in reducing blood pressure in patients with uncontrolled blood pressure in primary care
This doctoral thesis is a qualitative and quantitative approach to the problem of the lack of control of hypertension; it proposes a multi-component approach to the problem and explores how far it is possible to go in self-management, self-care and even self-administration of medication in patients diagnosed with hypertension through a clinical trial. A multifactorial intervention is designed to achieve control of hypertension. This intervention is piloted and refined. Subsequently, in a controlled, randomised clinical trial conducted in primary care, the effect of this complex intervention is measured against usual care.
